A brushless exciter or “rotating rectifier” is a component which is commonly found in industrial synchronous motors. If undetected. An abnormal operation of this component can lead to costly repairs for the motor’s owner. It would be beneficial to implement a real-time fault detection system for the electronic components comprising a brushless exciter. This thesis is based a continuation of a technique proposed by Zi Ang Zhang in 2009. The technique is refined in this thesis and results in a practical real time system for the detection of component failure in brushless exciters
