Documentary editors are attracted to and often bemused and irritated by biography (and biographers). They have a unique perspective on this genre that I\u27m going to explore through the prism of my own experience as a biographer and a documentary editor. I\u27ve been an editor for nearly twenty years and in that time have written or collaborated on four biographical projects-a biography of Revolutionary War general Benjamin Lincoln, a selected letters edition of Dolley Payne Madison, and two children\u27s biographies of Dolley and James Madison
