Mengidentifikasi Kondisi Oseanografi Yang Disukai Tuna Madidihang (Thunnus albacares) Di Teluk Bone Dengan Menggunakan Satelit Penginderaan Jauh

Yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacores) is one of the important species targeted by local fishermen in Bone Bay, South Sulawesi Province. The distribution of yellowfin tuna was studied from satellite remotely sensed environmental and catch data, using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Generalized Additive Models (GAMs). The objective of this study was to identify the preferred conditions of yellowfin tuna in the study area. Selected environmental variables such as sea surface temperature (SST) and sea surface chlorophyll-a (SSC) concentration were derived from Terra/MODIS satellite database. The experimental fishing was conducted on June to September 2014 by using a hand line (local commercial fisheries) at the fishing base of Bone Pute, Luwu district. Based on our model, yellowfin tuna distributions tended to be highest in the specific oceanographic conditions, including SST of 28.5 ??? 29.0 oC and SSC of 0.15 - 0.25 mg.m-3 . The models revealed that the selected oceanographic parameters play an important role in explaining the yellowfin tuna distribution and abundance. We noted that these preferred conditions may represent the optimal habitat of yellowfin tuna in the study area. This information could be used for spatial prediction of potential fishing zones for yellowfin tuna in relation to distribution and abundance
