Yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacores) is one of the important species targeted by local fishermen in Bone Bay, South Sulawesi Province. The distribution of yellowfin tuna was studied from satellite remotely sensed environmental and catch data, using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Generalized Additive Models (GAMs). The objective of this study was to identify the preferred conditions of yellowfin tuna in the study area. Selected environmental variables such as sea surface temperature (SST) and sea surface chlorophyll-a (SSC) concentration were derived from Terra/MODIS satellite database.
