9. Macrozoobenthos As Water Quality Indicator of Barrang Lompo Island Water, South Sulawesi

The study on the presence of the macrozoobenthos at seagrass meadow as water quality indicator of Barrang Lompo Island water, Spermonde Archipelago was done from Otober 2009 to March 2010. The study aims to analyze the relation between macrozoobenthos existence with characteristic of seagrass meadow as to analyze macrozoobenthos community structure amongst the seagrass. The three stations, was established according to coverage area of segrass in the field. A plot of 1 x 1 m2 with five replicates was applied at each station. In addition core was used to collect infaunal organism. The result recoded 40 species macrozoobenthos that consist of 19 species of bivalvia, 15 species of Gastropoda and two species of Asteroidea, Echinoidea, and Crustacea each. The distribution of macrozoobenthos at segrass meadow in Barrang Lompo Island was highly found in the area where the percent coverage of seagrass in dense (60-100%) and kind of distribution is random (the spread index value was , 1). Value of Diversity index shows that environment surround Barrang Lompo Island waters is under pressure.\ud Key words: Macrozoobenthos, Seagrass meadow, Barrang Lompo Islan
