ANALISIS KADAR EMISI GAS KARBON MONOKSIDA (CO) DARI KENDARAAN BERMOTOR YANG MELALUI PENYERAP KARBON AKTIF DARI KULIT BUAH DURIAN (Durio zibethinus)

Motor vehicles are the largest contributor to air pollution in Indonesia. Exhaust gas issued motor vehicle is very dangerous to health, especially carbon monoxide (CO). The more use of the motor vehicle, the more CO gas are released. The use of waste leather durian (Durio zibethinus) as raw material for the manufacture of activated carbon can reduce the concentration of CO gas from motor vehicles. Durian carbon is activated chemically by ZnCl2 10% for 3 days. 100 mesh of activated carbon is added with TiO2 and was made in the form of cylindrical pellets of 1 cm diameter and 0.5 cm high. Measurement of CO emissions using Portable Emission Analyzer PEM 9004 through adsorption tubes within 1 minute. Results showed activated carbons without addition of TiO2 can reduce concentration of CO gas from 0.604% to 0.192%, so the power of activated carbon adsorption was 68.2%. Activated carbon with addition of TiO2 which has adsorption power 97.8%, can lowering the CO gas concentration from 0.604% to 0.0135%. Activated carbon with TiO2 addition was more optimal in reducing the concentration of CO gas, compared with activated carbon without addition of TiO2.\ud Keywords: Activated Carbon, Carbon Monoxide, Durio zibethinus, Motor Vehicles, TiO2
