ROOT CANAL MICROORGANISMS PROFILES O F UPPER ANTERIOR TEETH WITH APICAL PERIODONTITIS

Microorganisms are the main causative agents on the development of apical periodontitis.\ud Microorganisms infecting the root canal system are colonized in communities as biofilm. These\ud bacterial communities show\ud distinct pattern related to the different forms of apical periodontitis\ud which are determined by species richness and abundance. This study is aimed to examine the\ud root canal microorganisms on upper anterior teeth of asymptomatic apical periodontitis and\ud ch\ud ronic apical abscess. Samples were collected from patients referring to Endodontic Department\ud of Hasanuddin University Dental Hospital from July 2013 to September 2013. Twenty two\ud samples, aged 17\ud -\ud 40 were collected from 16 patients with asymptomatic apical\ud periodontitis, and\ud 36 samples, aged 18\ud -\ud 50 were collected from36 patients with chronic apical abscess.\ud Microorganisms were evaluated using cultur\ud al\ud technique. The results showed predominant\ud bacteria in asymptomatic apical periodontitis is\ud Porhyromonasspp\ud w\ud hile in chronic apical\ud abscess both\ud Streptococcus spp\ud and\ud Porhyromonasspp\ud showed similar frequencies. This study\ud shows\ud Porhyromonasspp\ud play dominant role in apical periodontitis either in asymptomatic apical\ud periodontitis or chronic apical abscess
