From 1965 to 1973 the authors obtained 4,279 mycological cultures from abnormal nails, skin and scalp lesions. Trichophyton violaceum, Microsporum canis and M. audouini are the principal dermatophytes, isolated in tinea capitis; in nails and skin infection these are T. rubrum and T. mentagrophytes. Yeasts are most commonly isolated in nails and skin: Candida albicans, C. parapsilosis and C. tropicalis. Whether or not saprophytic fungi Scopulariopsis brevicaulis, Rhodotorula, Penicillium) could play a pathogenic role is discussed.SCOPUS: ar.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe
