Rehabilitation after myocardial infarction should start at an early stage, being continuous and multidisciplinary. It necessitates a positive psychological attitude from the patient and his entourage. Through its peripheral effects, physical training reduces myocardial oxygen requirements. A successful socio-economical rehabilitation depends on data like psychological context, profession, age and clinical status of the patient; in that respect, a close collaboration between rehabilitation centres and work circles facilitates the solution of many problems. Long-dated rehabilitation blends into the secondary prevention of risk factors of myocardial infarction and into some recent orientations like resorting to coronary surgery and prolonged administration of betablockers or inhibitors of platelet aggregation.
