The tomb of Amenhotep TT C3: Recent work of the Belgian mission in the Theban necropolis

Since 1999, the Belgian mission in the Theban necropolis has been studying a group of 18th dynasty tombs located in the southern part of Sheikh Abd el-Qurna hill in the Theban necropolis. The excavations lead to the discovery of the ‘lost tomb’ of Amenhotep, a deputy of the overseer of seal-bearers under Thutmose III. As the work progressed, revealing the complex history of the tomb, another monument came to light: the remains of a large mudbrick pyramid, which once dominated the landscape above the Ramesseum. Inscriptions provide the identity of its owner, a well-known vizier under Ramses II.
