The aim of this article is to explore spatial inequalities in health in small geographical areas in a developed country. The analysis is based on a comprehensive dataset of selfreported health of the Belgian population in the 2001 census. The cartographical analysis illustrates that important socio-spatial inequalities in health still subsist in Belgium: the regions, municipalities and neighbourhoods have a health status narrowly related to the socio-economic status of the population in the considered area. Information of small areas is very helpful to break-up and understand regional disparities in health.
