This invited paper examines current critical approaches to Romantic period literature. In this talk I intend to outline to prospective Ph.D. students how they might choose an area of research in the crowded space that is Romantic period studies. I will show that there is still much work that needs done in the fields of eighteenth and nineteenth century culture and will outline how to carry out methods of research, and how to organise a thesis
