Many health problems, including cardiovascular risk factors, accompany the increasing numbers of children at or above the 95th percentile for body mass index. To fight this morbidity among youth, numerous programs have been developed with the aim of decreasing obesity rates in children by improving their nutrition and increasing their physical activity. Primary prevention should begin in childhood. These programs attempt to reduce the risk of obesity from different approaches through the focus on population and individual change.
