The proliferation of Chicano students on college and university campuses was made possible through the passing of non-discriminatory acts toward minority groups in the United States. Passed in the mid-1960s, the Equal Opportunities Act and the Civil Rights Act made higher education more attainable for students of color. It was not until the late 1960s that students began to unite, voice their concerns and question the euro-centric education system.
