THESIS SUMMARY Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) promotes the survival as well as the biochemical and morphological differentiation of selective populations of neurons during development. Although the physiological effects of BDNF have been well characterized over the last years, little is known regarding the regulation of energy metabolism associated with the promotion of neuronal differentiation by BDNF. In this study, I examined the energy requirements associated with the effects of BDNF on neuronal differentiation.
