Während für durch gewöhnliche Differentialgleichungen beschriebene Systeme eine Vielzahl an bekannten Verfahren zur Parameteridentifikation zur Verfügung stehen, basieren jene für Systeme unendlicher Dimension (wie Transportprozesse oder Leitungsprobleme) häufig auf endlichdimensionalen Ersatzmodellen. Der hier vorgestellte algebraische Zugang kommt ohne derartige Approximationen aus und ist in diesem Sinne exakt. Er nutzt neben der Laplace-Transformation mit dem Ritt-Algorithmus und dem Buchberger-Algorithmus zur Berechnung von Gröbner-Basen Methoden der kommutativen und Differentialalgebra, um eine einfache polynomiale Gleichung als Beziehung zwischen konzentrierten Messsignalen und den unbekannten Systemparametern herzuleiten.
