This thesis covers studies on three myxobacterial strains, which were investigated with bioinformatic, biochemical and biotechnological methods to obtain insights into the production of novel bioactive secondary metabolites with relevance for use as clinical therapeutics. The work focused mainly on the myxobacterium Chondromyces crocatus Cm c5, where the genetic basis for the biosynthesis of three novel compounds, the crocapeptins, crocadepsins and the crocagins was assigned.
