Various factors influence the course and speed of every ship, resulting in uncertain arrival times at ports. Stakeholders from the port and shipping industry are highly dependent on this information for resource planning and allocation. This paper identifies the before-mentioned factors and analyses their respective relevance with regard to the port call of the ship. This analysis is the basis for developing a methodological approach to forecast maritime traffic
