FAKTOR RISIKO KOLONISASI Streptococcus pneumoniae PADA NASOFARING BALITA DENGAN INFEKSI SALURAN PERNAPASAN AKUT (ISPA)

Background : Streptococcus pneumoniae nasopharingeal colonization is an important pathogenesis route of various pediatric diseases. This process is mostly asymptomatic. S. pneumoniae colonization is related to Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ARTI). Many factors are predicted in increasing the colonization process in children with ARTI. Aim : This research is aimed to determine the relationship between the factors, which are recurrent ARTI, exclusive breastfeeding, passive smoking, and house crowding, and nasopharingeal colonization of S. pneumoniae in chlidren with ARTI. Methods : The research used cross-sectional method. The subjects were taken consecutively from BKPM Semarang. Risk factors were indetified by interviewing parents. S. peumoniae colonization was determined by nasopharyngeal swab culture on blood sheep agar + gentamycin 5%, and optochin test. Results : There were 63 speciments. The prevalence of S. pneumoniae colonization in children with ARTI was 26,98%. Based on logistic regression analisis, recurrent ARTI (p=0,917), exclusive breastfeeding (p=0,772), passive somking (p=0,831), and house crowding (p=0,960) were not significantly related to the colonization. Conclusion : Reccurent ARTI, exclusive breastfeeding, passive smoking, and house crowding are not significantly related to S. pneumoniae nasopharyngeal colonization in children with ARTI.
