KINERJA PENUKAR ION BERBASIS KARBON AKTIF DAN ZEOLIT DALAM PROSES PENGOLAHAN AIR SANITASI DI DIII TEKNIK KIMIA (Ion Exchanger Performance Based on Activated Carbon and Zeolite in the Process of Sanitation Water Treatment in DIII Chemical Engineering)

Water is a natural resource that is necessary for the livelihood of many people, even by all living things. As the increasing activity and population, the amount of water needed will increase as well. Because of the demand for clean water, a variety of water treatment methods are formed. One method of water treatment that can be used is ion exchange method, known as Ion Exchanger. In the impairment experimental test of water hardness with Ion Exchanger, it uses three tanks, such as cation exchanger tank, anion exchanger tank, and activated carbon tank which are made of FRP. The method used in the analysis of the levels of Ca and Mg is complexometry, the titration method which the titrant and titrat form neutral complex dissociates in solution. In this experiment, it is tested against the hardness of the water wells DIII Chemical Engineering, a combination of activated carbon with the addition of zeolite and without the addition of zeolite. The results obtained for impairment hardness combination of activated carbon with the addition of zeolite at minute 0, 15, 30, 45, 60 and 75 minutes are 1,2 ppm; 0,3 ppm; 0,2 ppm; 0,2 ppm; 0,1 ppm and 0.1 ppm. While the results obtained for impairment hardness combination of activated carbon without the addition of zeolite at minute 0, 15, 30, 45, 60 and 75 minutes are 1,2 ppm; 0,4 ppm; 0,3 ppm; 0,3 ppm; 0,2 ppm and 0,2 ppm. The longer it takes, the smaller the value of hardness is formed. This is because the process runs continuously where the water will be more in contact with the resin anions, cations and activated carbon so that it will react and reduce water hardness. It can be concluded that the ion exchanger of activated carbon combined with the addition of zeolite is more effective in lowering the hardness than the ion exchanger of carbon combined without the addition of zeolite. This is because the zeolite has a negative charge that is able to bind cations such as Ca and Mg present in water, beside that the activated carbon is used to remove organic substances, micro pollutants and purify water because it has a very large surface area
