Kwastel Honored at UGA School of Law Graduation

Kwastel, a May 2003 graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law, has received the law school’s prestigious William King Meadow Award. This award is given annually to the law graduate who best exemplifies the integrity, sense of responsibility and high standards of the legal profession and who has the keen sense of humor necessary to afford a proper human perspective to the resolution of legal problems. The award, established in 1991 by the will of Emily Tichenor, is named for her friend and attorney William King Meadow, a long-time partner in the Atlanta law firm of King & Spalding. Kwastel was chosen for the Meadow Award by fellow students and faculty. In nominating him for this award, one student said, “He is friends with everybody here and there is nobody who has been as committed to achievement in school, yet has taken law school in such stride.” Law school Associate Dean Paul M. Kurtz said, “I can tell you that during my service, nobody has been more dedicated to the law, more earnest in his pursuit of excellence or more enjoyable to be around.” During his time in law school, Kwastel was active in numerous activities. Most notably, he served as chief investigator in the law school’s Honor Court. In this role, he handled several extremely difficult and sensitive cases. A Brooklyn, N.Y., native, Kwastel is a 1993 graduate of Long Beach High School in Lido Beach. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science with honors from the University of Michigan. Before coming to law school, he worked for two years in the District Attorney’s office for New York County (Manhattan).
