The first story is concerned with a broken marriage and mother coming to terms with her relationship with a disabled child. Three of the remaining stories are linked and relate to a gay teenage boy and his early encounters with sex, romantic love, and friendship. The final story reveals a pre-occurring early-life trauma for a character who recurs in two of the preceding stories
