Parenting a child with a life-threatening illness and who is likely to die is unfathomable to most parents. Balancing the needs of a child who is ill with his or her healthy siblings adds a layer of complexity and work to an already challenging situation. Uncovering what it means to be a parent in this context to all of the children in a family is essential to the family-centered disciplines of pediatric palliative care and pediatrics and is central in moving the science of these disciplines forward.
