The problems of infrastructure location, access and capacity in rural development: Rural market infrastructure, agricultural markets and marketing in the 54 districts of Uttar Pradesh, India

The spatial and organizational problems of infrastructure in rural areas of LDCs is a major planning problem evident in every poor nation. The deficiency of systems is affecting both production and consumption. A subset of infrastructure. Rural Market Infrastructure (RMI), has a direct impact on the marketing of agricultural output, and thus it effects rural incomes. RMI is a complex of interrelated systems and services explicit in the functional definition of marketing. It consists of: transportation, storage, communication systems, market credit, market information, physical market facilities, and primary processing. The concept of RMI is intended to broaden the discussion beyond the singular consideration of transport in marketing. All of these systems and services have a symbiotic relationship with the spatial and physical structure of the environment
