The therapeutic efficacy of antidepressant drugs has been recognized for years, however current knowledge regarding their mechanisms of action remains incomplete. Although antidepressant drugs alter neurotransmitter concentration acutely, the symptoms of depression are alleviated only after chronic antidepressant use.
