The model compound for the investigation of such phenomena is malonaldehyde, a molecule whose gas-phase species exists predominately as a chelated enol tautomer with a finite barrier of $2000 cm^{-1}$ height separating two equivalent planar geometries. Numerous theoretical and experimental studies have shown that rapid interconversion between these equilibrium conformers can occur by means of quantum mechanical proton tunneling, thereby leading to a characteristic doubling of all rovibrational features within the $\tilde{X}^{1}A_{1}...
