AN ELECTRIC QUADRUPOLE TRANSITION: THE $b {^{1}}\Sigma_{g}^{+} - a {^{1}}\triangle_{g}$ EMISSION SYSTEM OF OXYGEN

Five branches are observed with $\triangle J = 0, \pm 1, \pm 2$. The relative intensities of the branches agree with those calculated for an electric quadrupole transition
