Author Institution: Division of Physics, National Research Council of CanadaAbsorption spectra of HC1 and DC1 in the region 1200 - 950 {\AA} have been photographed in 3rd order on a 10.6 meter vacuum spectrograph. The spectra show many strong absorption features with well resolved rotational structure. Band assignments have been made in terns of transitions to Rydberg States arising from the $\sigma^{2}\pi^{3}(n\ell\lambda)$ configuration of HC1 or DC1. The structures of the bands indicate that there are strong interactions between the Rydberg States, In addition transitions to high vibrationa1 levels of the ionic $^{1}\Sigma^{+}$ vstate, with configuration $\sigma\pi^{4} (4s\sigma$), have been identified in the region 1200 - 1080 {\AA} and...
