Author Institution: Department of Chemistry, University of CaliforniaThe V-V energy transfer rates for CO(v = 1) colliding with ground state $GS_{2}$ have been measured by observing the quenching of IR vibrational fluorescence between 198 and 370 K. This work presents evidence that the V-V rate is actually determined by a multiquantum process . Theoretical calculations assuming a multiquantum process have been performed for $CO(v = 1) + CS_{2} \rightarrow CO + CS_{2}$(101) and have been shown to be consistent with the experimental results
