Author Institution: Department of Chemistry, University of South CarolinaThe vibrational spectra of $Hg_{2}Cl_{2}, Hg_{2}Br_{2}$ and $Hg_{2}I_{2}$ have been obtained from polycrystalline samples of these materials. Raman spectra were recorded on a Cary Model 81 Raman Spectro-photometer using He-Ne laser excitation. The infrared frequencies were observed with a Beckman IR-11 double-beam far infrared spectrometer. Bands were observed in the $300-30 cm^{-1}$ region. All fundamentals in the three compounds have been assigned and these assignments are supported by an analysis of the normal modes based on a valence force field. The assignments will be presented and discussed as are the results of the vibrational analysis
