RAMAN AND INFRARED SPECTRA OF $BF_{3}\cdot S(CH_{3})_{2}$

Author Institution: Chemistry Division, Oak Ridge National LaboratoryThe Raman and infrared spectra of the liquid addition compound formed between boron trifluoride and dimethyl sulfide have been obtained. Infrared measurements have been made from 4000 to $200 cm^{-1}$ and Raman measurements from 4000 to $100 cm^{-1}$. Samples containing enriched $^{10}B$ or $^{11}B$ have been synthesized and the isotopic frequency shifts recorded. Assignments of the observed vibrational bands have been made and analogies with the spectra of $BF_{3}-O(CH_{3})_{2}$ have been pointed out. Isotopic partition function ratios have been tabulated and the equilibrium constant for boron isotope exchange between $BF_{3}-S(CH_{3})_{2}$ and $BF_{3}$ has been calculated and compared with experimental values.
