Author Institution: Department of Physics, Memorial University of NewfoundlandThe fundamental vibration-rotation band of Nitrogen at $2331 cm^{-1}$ has been investigated in pure $N_{2}$, and $N_{2}-H_{2}$ and $N_{2}-He$ binary mixtures at pressures up to 2000 atmospheres at $298^{\circ} K$. Absorption profiles in the pure $N_{2}$ indicate the existence of O, Q and S branches, having the band maximum at the fundamental vibrational frequency computed from the known molecular constants. No shift in the frequency of the band maximum was observable for the absorption contours obtained in the gas mixtures. However, in $N_{2}-H_{2}$ mixtures, the intensity of the Q branch diminished relative to that of the O and S branches, whereas in $N_{2}$-He m...
