VIBRATIONAL FREQUENCIES AND ASSIGNMENTS FOR THREE BORON HALIDE COMPLEXES OF TRIMETHYLAMINE$^{\ast}$

$^{\ast}$Work supported by the National Science Foundation under grant G-10372Author Institution: American Cyanamid Co.; Department of Chemistry, The University of MichiganRaman and infrared spectra of the 1:1 complexes of triemthylamine with boron trifluoride, trichloride and tribromide have been observed for the materials in the solid state. Vibrational assignments have been made assuming the molecules have $C_{3v}$ symmetry together with the aid of data obtained from isotopically substituted boron-10 compounds. The vibrational frequencies of trimethylamine are relatively little affected upon coordination but more extensive changes occur in the vibrational spectra of the Lewis acids. Trends in the series and specific assignments will be discussed briefly
