Author Institution:We have studied the chemiluminescence arising from the reactions $Sr^{*} + N_{2}O \rightarrow SrO^{*} + N_{2}$ AND $Mg^{*} + N_{2}O \rightarrow MgO^{*} + N_{2}$. Atomic beams of Sr ground state $(5s^{2} ~ ^{1}S)$ and low-lying Sr meta stable states ($5s5p ~^{3}po$), ($5s4d ~^{1}D$) where reacted with $N_{2}0$ in beam-gas experiment. Spectra obtained under single collision conditions consist of broad ``continuum’’ emission commencing at about 400 NM and extending into the near IR, beyond our detector range (300-900 NM); SrO are bands are seen superimposed upon this continuum.
