Author Institution: Department of Chemistry, Michigan State UniversityRaman spectra have been obtained of 12-molybdophosphoric acid $(H_{3} PMo_{12}O_{40})$ and 12-molybdosilicic acid $(H_{4} SiMo_{12}0_{40})$ in aqueous solution. The spectra change as a function of pH; decomposition schemes have been determined based on variations in the Raman band frequencies and intensities, through comparison with literature spectra. The structure and symmetry of $\beta$-12- molybdosilicic acid, presently unknown for this metastable form of 12-MSA, are also being determined
