Author Institution: Department of Chemistry and Laboratory for Research on the Structure of Matter, University of PennsylvaniaLaser radiation has been used to excite some diatomic molecules, including $PbS, Bi_{2}$ and $Sn_{2}$ each isolated in solid inert gas matrices. The results to be discussed include those for PbS in neon matrices which exhibit hot luminescence, emission narrowing of inhomogeneously broadened absorption, and some strong dependence of certain spectral features upon laser power. For $Bi_{2}$, three new electronic states lying in the near infrared have been observed and characterized. The $Sn_{2}$ molecule in solid argon displays a progression of about 10 vibrational bands in its resonance Raman spectrum
