INFRARED SPECTRUM OF BENZENE IN BROMINE SOLUTIONS

This was so because the concentrations of the halogen were far lower than those of the benzene. Therefore, the structural change of halogen was more noticeable. Our present studies have shifted the emphasis to the benzene molecules. Infrared spectra of 1% (v/v) benzene were measured in various bromine solutions ranging from 5% to 40% (v/v) with carbon tetrachloride as diluent. Careful analysis of the spectral changes of the benzene upon complex formation has provided us with a better understanding of the mechanism of interaction between benzene and bromine
