Author Institution: Bell Telephone Laboratories, Inc.A new form of molecular spectroscopy has been developed which may be called Microwave Optical Magnetic Resonance Induced by Electrons (MOMRIE). Electron bombardment is used to excite molecules residing in a microwave cavity in a magnetic field. Light emitted from the excited electronic states is monitored in a direction perpendicular to the field and the colinear exciting electron beam. The magnetic field is swept to tune the molecular levels to resonance with the microwave frequency. This resonance condition is observed via a change in the polarization and/or intensity of the emitted light. The MOMRIE technique was first tested by measurements of the fine structure and diamagnetic Zeeman...
