Author Institution: National Bureau of Standards“The spectrum of $CH_{4}$ in the legion of the infrared active stretching fundamental at $3020\;cm^{-1}$ has been observed in dilute (approximately 1 part in $10^{5}$) liquid solutions of oxygen, nitrogen, and argon, and clear crystalline argon solution at $78^{\circ} K$. The $\nu_{3}$ fundamental was found at 3017, 3016, and $3018\;cm^{-1}$ in oxygen, nitrogen, argon liquid solutions, respectively, and at $3023\;cm^{-1}$ in the clear crystalline argon solution.
