International audienceSeveral studies suggest that the teaching of music in primary schools dependsmore on musical practices than on teacher’s personal requirements. Yet the resultsof a survey conducted in 2006 questioning 1022 primary school teachers of theAcademy of Nancy-Metz show that the relationship between personal musicpractice and teaching practice is complex (Maizieres, 2009). Maybe not sodifferent in that aspect from other subjects, music education in primary schoolsseems to be due more to values that engage teachers in their professionalcommitment, than to their own relationship to musical knowledge.
