We propose and test an extension of the planned behavior model to reflect resistance to preventivepublic health messages. Our results relate to an anti-smoking advertisement and show that the detectionof persuasive intent, a promotion-oriented regulatory focus and perceived behavioral control lead to anincrease in resistance to persuasion
