We consider new scalar quantities in the context of High Angular Resolution Diffusion Imaging (HARDI), namely, the principal invariants of fourth-order tensors modeling the diffusion profiles. We present the formalism needed to compute tensor invariants. We show results on the orthogonal basis of fourth-order tensor and on real HARDI phantom and brain data
