This paper presents an alternative method of analyzing analog phased-array (APA )and digital phased-array (DPA) receivers by projecting them into a single-path structure. One more dimension is introduced to the design flow of APA receiver. Threshold conditions are found by comparing the SNR improvement of APA receiver with nonideal phase shifters and DPA receiver. The conclusions are validated through simulations with ADS Ptolemy
