Some notes on the fragmentary Latin translation of Euclid’s Elements preserved in the Codex Palimpsestus Veronensis Bibliothecae Capitularis XL (38)

The Codex Palimpsestus Veronensis Bibliothecae Capitularis XL (38) contains fragments of a Latin translation (V) of Euclid’s Elements. In this paper some linguistic and lexical notes on the translation are given as regards (i) Latin renderings of Greek geometrical formulary expressions with the article and (ii) the geometrical vocabulary. Some comparisons are also made with the fragmentary Latin translation (M) of the Elements attributed to Boethius. Furthermore, the question of the translator of V is briefly addressed, and some points regarding further research on V are presented.Bohlin Erik.
