Geographical distribution and its characteristics of camping sites in Kansai (Kinki) Region, Japan,are examined on this paper. After making a database of 222 camping sites, the authors examine the geographical locations, scales, equipment and services of each camping sites. Additionally, interviewing surveys are conducted with 2 camping sites regarding their management. Camping sites in Kansai Region are often distributed in rural areas far from cities. Their equipment and services complement the inconvenient locations, especially in mountainous areas. These results suggest that making use of the regional diversity of camping sites is important to enhance roles of camping activities in our society
