Typhoon Haiyan -- one of the most powerful on record -- made landfall on November 8, 2013 - with sustained winds of 150 mph, killing more than 6,000 people and leaving a path of destruction across the island nation. An estimated 2,000 health facilities were damaged or destroyed by the fierce winds and flooding, forcing scores of health centers to cease operations or scale back services.AmeriCares had a team on the ground within 72 hours, assessing needs and coordinating aid deliveries. Partner organizations were able to immediately access AmeriCares relief supplies pre-positioned in the country.
