Fiscal experts and government ministers stated recently that the rich are too highly taxed. I try to give answers from an ethical humanist viewpoint. For me (and probably for most people ) the taxes paid are less important than how much remains for spending. The taxes paid by individuals are not public in Belgium; the average conceals the extreme variation. We know from the numerous "leaks" that there are massive tax avoidance and evasion by corporations and by the wealthy. But we should consider what we all expect from society: schools, social housing, healthcare, transport, climate change…To-day even security services and justice lack the necessary manpower.
