Sports organisations and the countries whom the athletes represent have adopted anti-doping policies which, when breached, attract sanctions in the form of a ban from competition. The sports organisations have adopted by-laws, recognising the procedures for drug-testing and enacting a system of appropriate sanctions for breaches.
