These regions are facing challenges of declining water tables and increasing ground water salinity. Providing good quality drinking water for small communities in these areas is highly challenging. Although existing membrane technologies are able to produce potable quality water, issues such as high energy consumption, osmotic pressure constraint, brine management and large centralized designs make them unsuitable for application in these areas.
