MARITIME POLICY IN LATIN AMERICA: BRAZIL

Objective: The aim of this dissertation is to investigate the changes in the Brazilian maritime policy over the past 10 years, a period in which the country underwent significant economic and political transformation. The verification of mild academic study along with frequent reports of port investments and infra-structural upgrades makes the need of this research timely. Research methods: This research project was based on a review of related literature and on the Delphi questionnaires sent to experts in the field of maritime and shipping. Findings: The findings showed several controversial areas in this multidimensional subject of maritime policy, namely Brazilian model of port development, issues of regional integration, dichotomy between globalization premises and permanence of protectionist policies. Future Research: future research should focus on how these developments will materialize and how the Brazilian shipping industry will continue to respond and integrating itself to the global supply chains
