This paper sets out to examine the hypothesis of a causal link between specific language disorder, in particular word-finding difficuhies, and specific literacy learning difficulties, frequently referred to as dyslexia. To achieve this, practical, professional experience is put into the context of available research findings, in conjunction with case studies of four pupils, three of whom demonstrate a learning profile supporting the above hypothesis, the fourth providing evidence through contrast
